Delta EMD (Pty) Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Delta EMD Limited was established in 1982 and is listed on the Johannesburg Securities Exchange. Delta EMD (Pty) Ltd is South Africa’s only producer of premium quality Electrolytic Manganese Dioxide (EMD), with production facilities located in Nelspruit, in the Mpumalanga Province of South Africa.

The plant which was originally built as a 5000 tonne per annum greenfield facility, has been upgraded and expanded several times to become one of the most modern EMD facilities in the world. It currently has a production capacity of 30 000 tonne per annum of electrolytic manganese dioxide.

The proximity of the plant to one of the world’s largest known deposits of high-grade manganese ore continues to provide a significant competitive advantage. Delta EMD’s South African operation includes a Calcining plant located in the Northern Cape, which reduces manganese ore sourced from one of the major manganese ore mines in that area.

Delta is committed to being the supplier of choice for the world’s alkaline battery producers and our success thus far is attributable to levels of service and technical co-operation that have set the standards in the EMD industry.

Delta EMD also adopts best practice standards to meet its commitments to comply with local environmental regulations. It is our goal to be a zero solid waste-producing organisation, with programs in place aimed at achieving this goal in the medium term.
